//---About our meetups

As software systems grow, updates and infrastructure upgrades turn into complex engineering feats.

In this meetup, we’ll explore how Wix executes massive transformations at scale from using an AI-driven platform for safe code migrations across hundreds of repositories, to moving 1,000+ MySQL servers across 160 clusters with zero downtime in record time.

Code Migrations as Infrastructure: How Wix Handles Code Migrations at Scale

Code migrations may start with a simple change, but applying them safely across hundreds of codebases - with different patterns, dependencies, and edge cases - is anything but simple.

At Wix, we built a Code Migration Platform that combines AI and automation to support different types of migrations, from detection and code changes to validation and production ready changes while keeping developers in control.

In this talk, we’ll share the architecture behind it, how we turned it into a new way of running migrations at Wix, and how it has already saved hundreds of developer hours - giving engineers more time to focus on building and evolving products, rather than maintaining existing code.

1,000 MySQL Servers, 30 Days, Zero Downtime - A Rare Look Inside Wix's Zero-Downtime Migration

Migrating 1,000+ MySQL servers across 160+ active-passive clusters from Intel to Graviton, while also jumping from EOL CentOS 7 to Amazon Linux 2023  with zero downtime, across multiple regions. The plan said 3 months. We did it in 1.

This talk shows how three very different teams DB infra, DevOps, and Developers  designed and executed a migration nobody could have pulled off alone.

We'll cover the potential pitfalls we discovered (and the ones we didn't until 3am), how we built the automation that made 160 cluster migrations cheap and fast, and the decision points that accelerated this project to finish way ahead of the original timeline.
