//---ORIGIN STORY

From Silos to xEngineers

Building an AI-Native Engineering Guild

Historically Wix is built upon expert guilds such as Front-End, Back-End, QA, Mobile, UX etc’. AI is fundamentally reshaping software development, making old boundaries between Frontend, Backend, and Mobile a bottleneck rather than an advantage.

To move faster and focus on impact, we’re unifying these guilds into a single Engineering Guild and redefining the role through the xEngineer: an AI-native engineer who owns systems end-to-end while AI handles much of the implementation. xEngineers focus on architecture, quality, scalability, and outcomes, using AI across the entire development lifecycle.

As AI generates more production code, engineering value shifts from writing syntax to designing systems and owning results - supported by continuous AI-first training and hands-on enablement. Join us in this insightful journey!

This website is going to tell our story of the decisions we are making and the road we take to transform Wix into an AI-native company at scale. Since this is a journey into an ever changing endeavor, some things that we’ll try will work while some will not or change along the way. This is our story that we’ll share as we move forward.

From Guild Silos to xEngineers: The Journey of Redefining the Future of Engineering at Wix - Kickoff

In a post by Aviran Mordo, Wix outlines its shift from guild silos to the xEngineer model - AI-native engineers who own systems end-to-end and focus on architecture over code. The move includes unifying engineering into one guild and launching large-scale training to enable developers to work cross-stack and operate in an AI-driven workflow.

Four key takeaways from our latest internal email, sent by Wix CTO, Even-Haim Yaniv

In an internal note by Yaniv Even Haim, the AI shift in engineering is framed as a fundamental change in mindset, ownership, and how organizations operate - not just a tooling upgrade. It emphasizes faster, agent-driven workflows and a redefinition of the xEngineer as an AI-amplified specialist, where end-to-end ownership and real impact matter more than ever.

How is the xEngineer approach going to impact your work?

The xEngineer represents a shift from writing code to designing systems, as AI dramatically lowers the cost of code production and moves the bottleneck to architecture and decision-making. This change reshapes careers: engineers are expected to own problems end-to-end, think cross-stack, and use AI as a core part of their workflow - not just a tool. (Hebrew)

The xEngineer: A New Blueprint for Software Engineering in the AI Era

In a Wix Engineering post featuring Yaniv Even Haim, Aviran Mordo, and Asaf Yonay, the "xEngineer" is introduced as an AI-native developer who shifts from writing code to designing systems and orchestrating AI tools. The discussion highlights a major industry shift toward smaller teams, end-to-end ownership, and redefining engineering around problem-solving rather than syntax.

Embracing the AI Revolution: Introducing the xEngineer at Wix

In a post by Aviran Mordo, Wix introduces the “xEngineer” — an AI-native developer who owns systems end-to-end and focuses on design and architecture over coding. The move reflects a broader shift to unify engineering and fully embrace AI-driven development at scale.

//---Embracing the AI Revolution

At Wix, innovation has always been in our DNA.

 always been in our DNA.

The AI revolution is not just accelerating how software is written. It is fundamentally changing what it means to be an engineer. At Wix Engineering, we’re not waiting for the industry to catch up. We’re choosing to lead.
